Elena Poniatowska is an acclaimed Latin American journalist and author. Winner of the prestigious Rómulo Gallegos Literature award (2007). Poniatowska received Spain's Premio Cervantes, the greatest existing Spanish-language literary award for an author's lifetime works, in 2013. Her "testimonial narratives" are often based on both historical facts and the accounts of the marginalized people of society, who traditionally do not have the means and the media opportunities to express themselves.
